Event Type

Since 1826, at exactly seven minutes to ten at night, the Chief Yeoman Warder of the Tower emerges from the Byward Tower, wearing the traditional red Watch Coat and Tudor Bonnet. In one hand he carries a lantern, still lit to this day with a single candle. In the other he carries a set of keys – the King’s Keys.

Exactly at ten at night the centuries old ceremony of locking up the Tower of the London takes place.

Join us for a unique opportunity to see the Tower of London. Before the Ceremony of the Keys, Yeoman Sergeant Jimmy will take us on a tour of the grounds of the Tower and tell us the stories and history of the Tower of London.

After our tour and before the Ceremony of The Keys we are invited to repair to The Keys, the Beefeaters’ own public house, for refreshment.

The Ceremony will conclude at 10.05 pm at which point members will be invited to return to The Keys for further refreshments or are free to depart.

Your ticket will entitle you to a welcome drink in The Keys, with the remainder of the ticket collection being donated to the Charity of the Chief Yeoman Warder. You will be invited to buy a raffle ticket in support of the same charity.

Please note that The Keys is a cash-only bar.  No debit or credit cards are accepted.

There is no catering arranged in the Tower. There are a number of pubs to dine at near the Tower, but you must be at the assembly point at 7:20 pm (outside the West Gate to the Tower of London which is right next to the Welcome Centre on Tower Hill).  Our tour starts at 7:30 pm prompt.

You are welcome to invite guests – please note that all attending must be at least 18 years old. We are limited to 30 places.

Dress Code: Jacket and tie for gentlemen, appropriate equivalent for ladies. NO JEANS or TRAINERS.

Conclusion time: 11 pm, although members are free to depart after the Ceremony of the Keys concludes at 10.05 pm.
