Alan will present on his experience as an expert witness in the United States (and Canada)
Drawing on his experience from the London, French, Canadian and American insurance markets, Alan has served as an insurance practitioner for over 47 years, specialising in the field of marine, energy and liability insurance.
Following a period of service as President of the Canadian operations of Norwich Union / Maritime, he began his own underwriting agency servicing policies on behalf of the London, Canadian and American insurance markets.
Alan has been an expert witness for over 23 years. He has been retained as an expert on over 40 American federal or state cases and has testified close to 20 times including deposition, trial and arbitration in the USA. He has also been retained as an expert in Canada and has testified at trial on 2 occasions in the Canadian courts as well as testifying at 2 hearings. In addition to his North American experience, Alan has testified at trial in London, an arbitration in Ireland and a trial in Singapore.
In the course of this presentation, Alan will share his experiences as an expert in the US federal and state court system with particular reference to the following subjects:
- Engaging as an expert with US attorneys
- Preparation of expert reports
- Being called to testify at deposition.
Drawing on his 23 year experience, Alan will be pleased to offer guidance on how to better prepare as an expert in the US court system and to avoid certain pitfalls.
