[Brief_CV2] => Work experience: 11/2003 to Present
Chairman, Concordia Consultancy Limited
Founder of Concordia Consultancy Limited in November 2003. Investment of approximately £180,000 to fund the start-up phase of the company. ConcordiaÚs objective is to capture 2-5% of the `high-endÚ risk and insurance consultancy business. Concordia has already formulated an excellent board, has begun to establish offices world-wide and has won assignments for billable clients such as Swiss Re, Munich Re and IF p & c, amongst others.
10/2002 to 10/2003 Twelve months notice on non-compete `gardening leaveÚ.
The period of reflection provided by the gardening leave confirmed interest in developing a strategic role in the international insurance and consulting area - the Concordia Consultancy Buy & Build strategy was born. Several business plans have been researched and developed. These are being progressed and recruitment procedure has commenced. Committed to making these businesses successful by paying close attention to high standards of service, close management of client relationships and prudent financial controls.
6/2001 to 10/2002 Main board director of Charles Taylor Consulting PLC (Turnover £50+ million) and latterly Chief Executive of Services Division representing 40% of global turnover.
Following completion of the earnout arrangement became responsible at PLC board level for strategic HR and the HR department and director reported to me (700 employees). Dealt with the replacement of the previous HR director and enabled production of a company I-R manual (paper and web based), amalgamated the different company car schemes and coordinated a review of the four final salary company pension schemes. The IT department (budget of £3.5m) was added to my strategic responsibilities and my analysis recommended change of IT director and re-focus to enhancing service income rather than being a cost centre.
As Chief Executive of the Services Division (£22mm in revenues and over 250 employees): visited offices and staff in Asia, America, and Europe; developed a residential strategy and budget workshop as part of an integration exercise to bring together four separate previously acquired organisations; introduced a case mentor system and training workshop; and developed a budget for profitable growth. Throughout this period retained close links with clients, attracted considerable new business, and remained close to the top of the fee-billing league with net invoicing in excess of £250k.
Due to disagreement over resource allocation and my concerns relating to the PLC boardÚs lack of strategic involvement, I gave one years notice of my intention to leave the company and was asked to go onto gardening leave from 76 December up to 31St October 2003.
5/1988 to 5/2001 Founding Chairman and Managing Director of Resolve International Limited.
Founded Resolve International Limited in 1988, a new international loss adjusting and risk consulting firm having selected the founder directors, developed the business plan, arranged finance and then managed expansion.
The business formed subsidiaries in America, France, Spain, Cyprus and Singapore and developed a network of associates in over thirty countries. The business was run in a cash generative way with net profit regularly in excess of 15 per cent.
In the 1990Ús began a process of developing the next generation of management as well as keeping up to date by gaining a law degree, an MBA, and a diploma in management consultancy. During this time remained consistently in the top three fee earning group. In late 2000 received an approach from Charles Taylor Consulting PLC for the purchase of the business. Led negotiations over a six-month period for the sale and the subsequent earn out agreement.
Resolve saw steady growth to achieve revenues of £3mm with 30 employees by 2001 at the time of its sale to Charles Taylor Consulting. PaulÚs top team remained consistent throughout the companyÚs life. Importantly, Resolve achieved a net profit before tax margin of 35%, considerably higher than market norms. Resolve was sold for £5.lmm equating to a P/E ratio of 6 and a turnover multiple of 1.7.
1979 to 1988 Chartered Loss Adjuster and Director, Graham Miller Group
Resident ex-patriate Director from 1983 to 1986 when international adjusting experience gained from living and working in London, Dubai, Brussels and Singapore. On return to the UK opened office in Croydon housing South East England staff and international construction unit.
1978 to 1979 Sabbatical
16,000 mile tour of Europe in motor home.
1975 to 1978 Cornhill Insurance
Based in London on company professional development scheme providing exposure to all branches of non-marine insurance.
1972 to 1975 Thorn Electrical Industries
Commercial training in various departments including education and training, purchasing, and principally the airfield unit of the international division.
