[Brief_CV2] => Graduated in 1979 Mike was employed by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council with whom he had previously spent some time as an Undergraduate, under an ICE Training Scheme.
He then worked for Allott and Lomax Consulting Engineers and subsequently Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council as an Assistant Engineer before establishing the MW Barber Group of Consulting Engineers in 1985.
In 1996 his Practice was acquired by Bullen Consultants Ltd. As Divisional Director, Mike became responsible for the management of the Stockport and Derby Offices, together with the national and international development of the firmÚs sewerage capability. He was also actively involved in marketing, client liaison, staff recruitment and strategic development of the 450 strong Practice.
In 2002 he joined the international multi disciplinary firm of Hyder Consulting as Business Development Director Sewerage, with responsibility for over 120 staff throughout the UK and Europe. Mike was responsible for the development of the firmÚs sewerage capability in both home and overseas markets.
In September 2004 he re-established his own consultancy practice, M W Barber Associates, and presently undertakes drainage related planning, feasibility and design services for local authorities, housebuilders and architects as well as providing litigation support services for Solicitors.

Mike is a well-known figure to all the UK water company PlcÚs and chairs a national forum of water company Sewerage Managers which meets annually to discuss current issues affecting the water industry.
Formerly Mike was an appointed Supervising Engineer on the ICE approved training scheme for Graduate Engineers and was included on the ICE Standing Joint CommitteeÚs Index of Approved Employers. He has also acted as an Industrial Mentor for civil engineering undergraduates at the University of Manchester.
Recently admitted as a Member of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering, Mike is committed to raising the standards of service delivered by Consulting Engineers and is an adviser to two major contractor organizations on the procurement and ongoing management of Consulting Engineers for the delivery of design services.
