Maria is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 30 years experience.Maria started her career working for engineering firms as a structural designer and project manager. Later in her career she joined the contracting sector where she spent 15 years in construction management, planning engineering and commercial management in different parts of the world.
Maria has acted as party appointed expert on several projects. Her expert witness work for off-shore and on-shore windfarms, solar energy, nuclear, infrastructure, public building construction, shipbuilding, and for the oil & gas industry involved carrying out delay analysis, preparation of independent expert reports and liaising with counsel and instructing solicitors.
Maria has given oral expert evidence in international arbitration proceedings.
She has been appointed to provide advice and independent expert opinion to clients on a variety of planning/ programming, forensic scheduling and contractual issues in building, including high-rise developments, hotel construction, shipbuilding, tunneling projects and FPSOs. She has gained extensive experience in adjudication and international arbitration and has advised clients on dispute resolution processes and provided case-management for these.
Maria commenced her professional career as a site engineer on building and civil engineering projects. She progressed to Planning Engineer, Senior Planning Manager and Commercial Manager before becoming Delay Expert. Throughout her career she gained extensive experience in the preparation of construction programmes, resource scheduling, and programme and cost monitoring for major building and civil engineering projects. She prepares delay and disruption analyses for claims for extension of time and acceleration measures. Her work is applied not only to formal dispute resolution proceedings but also for risk assessment and negotiated settlements.
Her extensive international experience includes working with a variety of contract forms including FIDIC, ICE, JCT, NEC. She has expert knowledge of planning tools such as Primavera P6, Primavera P3, Asta Powerproject.
Maria has been instructed by solicitors, contractors and architects.
