Expert Witness Snapshot
I undertake consultancy commissions for public, private and third sector clients (over 415 since 1986 in counties across England) involving primary/secondary research and/or interpretation, evaluation and critical analysis of historical records and archive material relating to the ownership and conveyancing of land and rights over it.
My subject cases have involved proving, establishing and clarifying evidence of title to land and ownership rights and liabilities including matters such as Parliamentary inclosure and private enclosure, boundaries, roads and ways, verges and roadside waste, rivers, watercourses and drains; public and private rights of way, easements and wayleaves; title to manors, copyhold tenure and its enfranchisement, manorial incidents and waste, commons, common rights, village greens, mineral rights, markets, franchises, and (several) fisheries; churchyards, glebe, chancel repair liability and tithe rent charges; covenants relating to title; open space designation; and bona vacantia jurisdiction (dissolved Company assets); palaeography and transcription (Latin, English and French).
