Since 2008 John has been a principal in Make Your Figures Count a practice which advises charities on a range of issues including accounting and governance. 

In 2018 John was awarded an MBE for his work as the Hon. Chief Executive of a Bath based cancer charity a role which he undertook for nineteen years.
