Jo worked as an Occupational Therapist in general medicine before specialising in Neurology and Brain Injury Rehabilitation. She co-ordinated the Rehabilitation Unit at Ticehurst House before setting up the Brain Injury Case Management Services.

Jo established Head First in 1994. This is a independent company specialist in working with people with severe brain injury.  Jo and others in the Head First team write immediate needs assessments and expert reports on rehabilitation, care, case management and equipment; provide Case Management Services for individuals with brain injury (adults and children), and their families; and have developed training programmes.

Jo has written various articles, chapters and books on Brain Injury rehabilitation; Family Experiences after Brain Injury; Life Care Planning: and on Case Management. She has undertaken research and had various articles published in the journal Brain Injury on Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Interelationship of Functional Skills Retraining and Factors Affecting the Need for Case Management and Care after Brain Injury.

Jo has written various articles, chapters and books on the rehabilitation of Brain Injured adults with Gordon Muir-Giles, and a chapter on ÚAssessment, Care, Case Management and Equipment - Medical Aspects of Personal Injury LitigationÚ with Maggie Sargent.
