[Brief_CV] => I am a retired Consultant Neonatologist who has a special interest in brain injury in babies. I was Lecturer in Paediatrics, University of Cambridge (1985-1987), and then held a Consultant appointment in Cambridge until 1995. Whilst in Cambridge I was also Director of Medical Studies at Girton College. I held an appointment as Consultant in Neonatal Medicine at King’s College Hospital in London from 1995-2004. I then held a similar post at University College London Hospitals where I was Clinical Lead in Neonatology. I retired from clinical work in December 2018 but continue to carry out some research and teaching. I have contributed chapters to many books. I co-authored “Manual of Neonatal Intensive Care 4th Edition” with Dr NRC Roberton, and the 5th Edition with Dr Giles Kendall (2012). We are currently preparing the 6th edition. I was the sole editor of “Rennie & Roberton’s Textbook of Neonatology 5th Edition”. I was the sole author of “Neonatal Cranial Ultrasound”, and co-author of the updated version entitled “Neonatal cerebral investigation”.
I have been extensively involved in research into neonatal brain injury, and have published many papers on this topic. Our group completed work on automated seizure detection supported by a Wellcome technology transfer grant. We held a Wellcome grant for further work, using EEG as part of a neonatal brain health index. I was a co-investigator in a European study (FP-7 \"NEMO\") of antiepileptic drug treatment of neonatal seizures. I was on the board of the Archives of Disease in Childhood for ten years and served on the national executive committee of the British Association of Perinatal Medicine for a similar length of time. I served on the board of the Mac Keith Press for 9 years. I was the Chair of the RCPCH Specialist Advisory Committee, responsible for setting standards regarding training in neonatal medicine in the UK, from 2002 to 2005, having been on the committee since 1997. I have advised CESDI, and RCOG-led advisory groups on “Safer Childbirth” and “Standards for Maternity Care”. I was Chair of the NICE guideline development group on neonatal jaundice 2007-10, Chair of the GDG on Specialist neonatal respiratory care (2017-2020). I was Chair of the Jaundice group of the NHS England programme (\"ATAIN\"). I am a member of the Neonatal Society (I was the secretary), the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (who elected me as an honorary member) and Royal Society of Medicine. I have 35 years of experience in medico-legal work. I advise solicitors acting for Claimants and Defendants and have given evidence in Court on over 40 occasions both in the UK and abroad. I am a founder member of the Expert Witness Institute, and an approved member of the Academy of Experts.
