Since 2010, he has acted as an independent expert witness in civil litigation involving hair and scalp injuries, preparing reports for both Claimants and Defendants. His work primarily concerns allegations of hair damage arising from hairdressing procedures, including bleaching, colouring, perming, chemical straightening, hair extensions, thermal injury and other cosmetic treatments, together with cases involving hair loss following personal injury or other alleged negligent events. He accepts instructions from both Claimants and Defendants, with approximately 80% of his instructions received on behalf of Claimants and 20% on behalf of Defendants.
Mr Sallis has been a member of the Academy of Experts since 2011 and has undertaken regular continuing professional development in expert witness practice, including specialist training in report writing. His reports are prepared in accordance with CPR Part 35 and the accompanying Practice Direction, and his overriding duty is to the Court.
In addition to his expert witness practice, Mr Sallis is actively involved in the advancement of the trichology profession. He is Co-founder of the International Trichology Congress, Chair of the Trichology Subcommittee of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS), Director of the Association of Professional Trichologists, Director of the College of Trichological Science and Practice, Chair of the Trichology Professional Development Programme, and Treasurer of the European Hair Research Society (EHRS).
