Following the Annual General Meeting of the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong, Lord  Neuberger, the President of The Academy of Experts is giving an Evening Talk to which TAE Members are invited.

Lord Neuberger will discuss his fascinating life and career from his early years as a merchant banker and young barrister in London and through his meteoric rise to President of the Supreme Court. The meeting will delve into some of his most famous judgments, especially in the construction sector, and hear from him about his thoughts on the pressing issues of the day.

Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury

David Neuberger was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1974 following a brief spell as a merchant banker at Rothschild & Sons. In 1987, he became Queen’s Counsel. In 1996, he was appointed a High Court Judge in the Chancery Division and received a knighthood from the Queen.

In 2001, he was made Supervisory Chancery Judge of Midland, Wales and Chester, and of the Western Circuits, a post he held until 12 January 2004, when he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and a member of the Privy Council. Since 2007, he has been a peer in the House of Lords, sitting as Baron Neuberger of Abbotsbury in the County of Dorset. He remains the youngest person to have been appointed a sitting Law Lord.

From 2009 to 2012, Lord Neuberger served as Master of the Rolls, the second most senior judge in England and Wales, and from 2012 to 2017 he was President of the Supreme Court, the most senior judge in the United Kingdom.

He stepped down in 2017 and now serves as a Non-Permanent Judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal, an international judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court, and Chair of the High-Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom.

In 2021 Lord Neuberger became President of The Academy of Experts, a post which he holds currently.
